The Business/CIS Building was the last of four major projects; funded by Proposition R, to be constructed on the Cuyamaca College campus. This project was a multi-prime contract with a 14 month construction schedule, which started in August of 2008. The project consisted of two 2 story buildings that housed classrooms and offices for the computer science classes.
Bay Air Systems led the 3D coordination for a new 44,000 square foot business and computer information center to be built on site at Cuyamaca College's El Cajon Campus. We were required to organize and participate in the 3D coordination process by Rudolph & Sletten's request for proposal. It was our responsibility to model the building structure, building walls, sheet metal, and HVAC piping and to coordinate the other trades (electrical, plumbing, fire protection) to produce a pre-coordinated building void of conflicts prior to starting construction. The mechanical system consist of chilled water to four Energy Lab roof top air handlers with a variable air volume system and hot water reheat, provided from the campus mechanical loop. Four server rooms in the buildings were cooled by Liebert split system air conditioners. Air distribution provided by Price HVAC finished off the ceiling with numerous different styles of diffusers, such as t-bar perforated face, linear slot diffusers, and surface-mount style.
The buildings are now up and running with a combined effort of some of our most valued subcontractors. American Air Balance provided all air and water balancing as well as duct leakage testing on all air systems. Climatec, campus controls contractor, provided a state of the art building automation system by Allerton, which ties directly into the existing campus system. Scot-Therm Insulation provided and installed all ductwork and piping insulation for the project.
